A spokesperson for Indiana Michigan Power says that a bird that came in contact with a transformer is to blame for thousands of outages across the area Monday night.
I&M said that the bird caused three circuits to fail.
At the peak of the outage, about 2,700 customers were without power in Elkhart County, 1,200 in St. Joseph County in Indiana -- and about 400 customers in Cass County in Michigan.
Crews were immediately dispatched to help bring back power to the area.
No word on when full restoration will be complete.
