DOVER TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY—A York County woman said it's possible to put a smile on the face of a soldier, when you're thousands of miles away. Vickie Smith works at Advance Auto Parts in Dover, it's also where she is working on a project that is making sure soldiers in Afghanistan feel loved this Valentine's Day. The auto store has transformed to where you can see candy hearts, chocolate and cards that her and other volunteers are making. Vickie's got donations and volunteers to help send these Valentine's Day treats to her son Cody and the entire Battalion stationed in Afghanistan. The sergeant has told her that no one has taken on a large project like this on their own, but Vickie said she's done it before and determined to do it again.
"I thank them for my freedom, because without them, I wouldn't be able to stand here and do these things, I wouldn't be able to fill these little bags to send over and I might not be able to walk out and come to my job and have the support that I need," said Vickie Smith.
This is the second project since Christmas, when she sent hundreds of Christmas gifts over.
Project Easter is her next effort.
You can be a part of it by dropping off donations at Advance Autoparts in Dover Township.
They're looking for non-perishable food items, toiletries, maybe even some Easter sweets.
