Dallas, Texas—It's official, Penn State Junior QB Matt McGloin will not play in Monday's TicketCity Bowl against Houston. Nittany Lions interim head coach Tom Bradley said McGloin is out and Robert Bolden is the starter.
Redshirt Freshman Paul Jones did not make the trip because of academic issues so Junior Shane McGregor is the backup.
McGloin hasn't practiced since a Dec. 17 fight with teammate Curtis Drake after practice. McGloin said he suffered a concussion and a seizure when his head hit the locker room floor. He was briefly hospitalized that day before being released. Ironically, both McGloin and Drake will miss the game. Drake did not come to Dallas for personal reasons.
McGloin was the starter in the last five games. Bolden started the first seven contests and did not play much down the stretch. He has only one touchdown pass this season to go with four interceptions. Kickoff on Monday against Houston is 12 Noon.
