Police say 19-year-old Bloomsburg University student Brian Savage of Elizabethtown was found unresponsive Saturday morning in an apartment. Paramedics tried to revive him but were unable to do so, and he was pronounced dead by Columbia County Coroner Lori Masteller.

Deputy Coroner Linda Kessler said Savage was drinking with friends who allowed him to sleep on a futon when he became intoxicated.

Savage's death comes less than a week after the start of classes on Bloomsburg's, Columbia County campus. The sophomore business management major is tonight being remembered as a talented athlete full of potential...

Brian Savage was a captain on the Elizabethtown high school soccer team when he graduated in 2009. Tonight, the school is bracing to help the community cope with his death. Brian Savage was a stand-out soccer player at Elizabethtown High. He went on to play at Bloomsburg University - where police say he was found dead Saturday at an off-campus apartment.

The coroner is looking into the possibility his death was alcohol-related. Back in E-town, the school district is ready to help as athletic teams head to practices Monday. Troy Portser, director of school and community information says "it certainly touches very close to home with those programs, and we're there to support them as best we can. Condolences from our entire district k-12 go out to Brian Savage's family. This is certainly a tragic event that affects all of us"

Professional counselors will be available for students at practices Monday and at school when classes resume Tuesday after the holiday weekend. Savage, a 2009 e-town high graduate, was a soccer team captain.

A Bloomsburg student interviewed said, "It's sad obviously, the kid was young, it was his first week or two here and now his parents have to be notified. I just couldn't imagine that. It's pretty sad."

Athletic practices and games will be held as scheduled at Elizabethtown High School. Bloomsburg University also has grief counselors on hand. Its men's soccer game originally scheduled for last night.. was postponed.
