NEW YORK (WPIX)—Family and friends gathered Wednesday to remember the life of an 11-year-old girl who was killed on her way to a slumber party over the weekend.
Leandra Rosado, a sixth grader at Greenwich Village Middle School, was killed early Sunday morning in an alleged drunk driving crash on Manhattan's West Side Highway. In addition, seven of her friends, who were also in the car, suffered injuries.
31-year-old Carmen Huertas, the woman behind the wheel, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and DWI. Huertas was traveling at a speed of 80 mph when she lost control of her vehicle and tipped over on the Henry Hudson Parkway, police said.
Lenny Rosado, the father of the young victim, is devastated over his sudden loss. He has been handing out fliers inviting the public to attend the wake for his daughter.
The wake is being held both Wednesday and Thursday at Redeen's Funeral home in Manhattan.
A funeral mass is scheduled to take place on Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. Bernard's Church.
