UConn Football Player Stabbed to Death During Fight
A 20-year-old star football player from the University of Connecticut was stabbed to death following an early morning dispute on campus Sunday.

Jasper Howard, of Miami, a junior at the college and a starting cornerback, was killed outside a dance at the UConn Student Union just hours after the college team's victory over Louisville.

In addition, a second person, who remains unidentified, was stabbed.

Police responded to the scene shortly after 12:30 a.m. after being alerted by several students that a stabbing had occurred near Hillside Road, which is reportedly near the center of the Storrs campus.

The perpetrator is still at large, police said.

"We're actively following investigative leads," said Major Ronald Blicher of the UConn Police.

University president Michael Hogan said state police are working with campus police.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell visited the campus Sunday to extend condolences to Howard's family and friends.

"I have reached out to UConn President Hogan to offer him any assistance needed at this most difficult time," she said in a prepared statement. "Beyond law enforcement, we will also make available counselors and other needed resources."
