LITTLE NECK, N.Y. (WPIX)—A three-alarm blaze ripped through a Con Edison substation in the Little Neck section of Queens leaving 700 customers in the dark Friday morning.
There were clouds of heavy black smoke and flames of 20 feet shot out to the sky, witnesses said.
Fire officials worked hard to put out the blaze, before several responding engine companies were called in to help contain the fire. Firefighters initially had to wait for Con Ed to turn off electricity before being able to tackle the blaze. Hazmat crews were also called to the scene.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
