SPRINGFIELD GARDENS, N.Y. (WPIX)—Termites may have caused an entire row of utility poles to suddenly fall Tuesday afternoon in the Springfield Gardens section of Queens.
Five polls came tumbling down on 157th Street -- one of which fell on a UPS truck -- which prompted about 60 homes on the block, as well as nearby businesses, to be without power.
In addition, one of the poles reportedly fell on a woman's car as she was getting ready to leave her house. Con Edison crews were able to cut the sparking wires before more damage could have been done to her car.
Con Edison hasn't officially announced what caused the incident. However, they are working to replace the polls and clean up debris in the area.
