WEST ISLIP (WPIX)—A Long Island math teacher has been charged with raping a teenage girl in the parking lot of an elementary school, PIX News has learned.
According to Suffolk County police, Daniel Rothbard met the 15-year-old girl online through MySpace and arranged to meet her in the parking lot of Westbrook Elementary School in West Islip, where police say he sexually assaulted the minor.
Police say an officer from the Third Precinct was on a routine patrol when she spotted a gray Honda in the parking lot of the Westbrook Elementary School at about 8:25 p.m. Tuesday. When inspecting the vehicle, the officer discovered Rothbard and the 15-year-old girl inside the car.
Rothbard is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday. He is charged with third-degree rape, third-degree criminal sexual act, third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Investigators are now looking into whether Rothbard had sexual relations with other girls he met online.
