MERRICK, N.Y. (WPIX)—A teacher on Long Island - arrested in the past for the alleged rape of a 15-year-old girl - has landed a spot in jail again. This time, on new charges of sexual misconduct involving two more underage girls, Nassau County police said.
Daniel Rothbard, 28, of Merrick, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with criminal sexual act and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Rothbard, who also worked as a summer camp counselor at Rolling River Day School and Camps in East Rockaway for about 15 years, was slated to be arraigned Thursday on the new charges at First District Court in Hempstead.
He was previously charged with rape after a cop caught him allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old girl in a parked car outside a West Islip elementary school on July 21. According to reports, he had met the girl online and spoke to her through MySpace and text messages.
During the time of his first arrest, Rothbard was a math teacher at the Willow Road Elementary School in Franklin Square where he had reportedly been employed for four years.
Rothbard pleaded guilty to felony charges of rape, criminal sexual act and sexual abuse, and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child in connection with the July 21 incident.. According to police, Roth is married and before his first arrest, had no criminal rap sheet.
Records showed that Rothbard was released on $5,000 cash bail on the previous charges.
