Taxi Drives On East Village Sidewalk, 5 Injured
An out-of-control taxi driver jumped onto the sidewalk early Sunday and careened into a group of people, injuring 5.

The cab slammed into a crowd of people standing in front of the Bean Coffee Shop at E. 3rd St. and 1st Ave. in Manhattan around 1:30 a.m. According to reports, the cab swerved to avoid and SUV and instead hit two bicyclists before running down another pedestrian and finally crashing into the coffee shop.

Five other people were injured and taken to Bellevue Hospital. One person is now in serious condition.

The driver was also transporting a passenger when the accident occurred.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
