STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (WPIX)—A 19-year-old man is facing charges in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident on Staten Island. Estik David Lozano has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident and driving-while-intoxicated.
The accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. The victim has been identified as 47-year-old Brunelda Maldonado. Police say Maldonaldo had pulled her Toyota to the right side of Targee Street near Laurel Avenue to check on a mechanical problem.
Authorities say 23-year-old Daniel Shields stopped his car to offer help when a black sedan tried to squeeze between the two parked cars and hit Maldonado. She was thrown 50 feet. Shields, who is Maldonado's neighbor, was later charged with driving-while -intoxicated.
Both suspects are scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday.
