Sabathia Shines, Yankees Complete Series Sweep
C.C. Sabathia’s teammates and fans have come to expect exceptional pitching and a win whenever the big ace takes the mound.

But his outing yesterday surpassed all expectations.

Pitching against his former team, Sabathia struck out 13, only gave up 6 hits, 0 runs over 7 1/3 innings.  He tied his career high in strike outs in the brilliant performance.

"This is a big series," Sabathia said. "These guys are in first place, a really good-hitting team, and we pitched well against them. I just wanted to finish it off today, and we were able to do that."

Sabathia is tied for the league lead in Wins, but sometimes he has gotten off the hook due to his offense.  The Yankee offense has provided 10 runs or more in 6 of his starts.  With that much run support, it seems any pitcher would have a high tally of wins.

Not on Thursday, however.  Sabathia was in Cy Young form, and the 5 runs scored by his teammates was more than enough for the victory.

Francisco Cervelli provided 2 RBI’s for New York and Mark Teixeira provided his own offense by smashing his 300th career homer.  He now has 25 round trippers and is leading all of baseball.

“It's very cool, especially in a win," Teixeira said. "They're always important home runs if you can help out CC, and he didn't need much today."

The Yankees are steamrolling over opponents right now, and it is only fitting that their ace is leading the charge.
