81/2-Months Pregnant Bride-To-Be Murdered In New York City Day Before Wedding, Cops
Police are on the hunt for whoever stabbed a 38-year-old, pregnant woman to death just a day before her wedding, and two weeks before her baby boy was due.

According to authorities, Vindalee Smith was found unconscious in her basement apartment on East 94th Street in East Flatbush, Saturday around 9:30 a.m. She had been stabbed in the neck multiple times; her landlord reportedly discovered the body in a pool of blood.

A report in the New York Post says her elder daughter arrived at her mother's home to attend a baby shower for her soon-to-be-born brother, only to learn they had been murdered.

"Where is my mom? I want to see my mom!"

Then, according to one of Smith's friends, her daughter collapsed. "She fell on the floor and couldn't get up. It was so sad. She came for a baby shower and a wedding -- but now she has to stay for a funeral," she said.

Smith was employed by a geriatric, home health-care agency. She has four children: two teenage boys and two girls in their 20's. Friends say she was a devout Seventh-Day Adventist, who worshipped at the New Dimension Church, near her apartment. Pastor Ferron Francis told the newspaper, she had just moved into the apartment, and was due to move again after her wedding. Her boys were staying with friends until she was settled.

According to Francis, Smith had been getting death threats from an ex-neighbor from a previous address, with whom she had an ongoing "misunderstanding," adding "she had some issues with some people in the past, who had actually threatened to kill her and her entire family."

But, he said, it looked like the threats stopped after she moved to East Flatbush, adding Smith told him they resumed two weeks ago.

Investigators are trying to find out if she had reported the latest threats, and the motive behind the alleged threats to police. Sources close to the investigation told PIX11 there were no signs of forced entry into the apartment, indicating that she probably knew her killer.

Meanwhile, an autopsy has been scheduled for Sunday morning, which would've been her wedding day.
