NEW YORK (PIX11)—A shooting involving police Sunday evening landed a woman in the hospital in critical condition.
Details are sketchy, however authorities told PIX11 News, the incident happened around 9:15 p.m., at the corner of East 45th Street and Third Avenue -- one, possibly two officers were involved.
Broadcast reports say she may have been armed.
According to investigators, the unidentified woman -- from an area shelter -- was shot four times, and was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Center on the Lower East Side, where doctors say she's critical.
A tourist -- who recently arrived in the city -- described to PIX11 News what he saw, and heard from his hotel. "It was like an explosion, and after that we realized it was gunshots...something like four shots...four, five shots in a row...saw a person lying on the floor," the man recalled.
