A plane has crash landed in the parking lot of a northern New Jersey shopping mall, PIX News has learned.

A spokesperson for Rockaway Townsquare Mall in Rockaway, N.J. confirmed that a single-engine Cessna plane made an emergency landing in the shopping center's parking lot around 12 p.m. Tuesday, just yards from mall's JC Penny store.

The plane's pilot managed to walk away without any serious injuries, officials said. The condition of his only passenger is still unknown.

One shopper who witnessed the landing, tells PIX News the plane did as much as "bump a tree" when it came to a halt in the mall's parking lot.

No injuries or damage were reported on the ground. Local authorities and EMS units were still on the scene Tuesday, assessing the situation.

Rockaway Townsquare, described as a super regional shopping center on its website, is anchored by Macy's, Lord & Taylor, JC Penney, and Sears.

The town of Rockaway is located 40 miles north of New York City.
