Mets Release Pitcher Oliver Perez
Just three days after second baseman Luis Castillo was released by the New York Mets, pitcher Oliver Perez has been shown the door following a poor performance at spring training.

According to Mets officials, the team has decided to absorb the $12 million remaining on the left-hander's $36 million, three-year contract.

The dismissal comes two days after Perez allowed two embarrassing, consecutive home runs to minor leaguers.

Perez's performance on the mound slowly diminished following the 2007 season where he garnered 15 wins. Right knee surgery in 2009 further added on to the pitcher's health woes.

Perez, who had a spring training ERA of 8.38 in 9 2-3 innings, was 1-6 in seven starts to begin last season before being moved to the bullpen.
