NEW YORK (WPIX)—Two New York University students who were in Haiti at the time of Tuesday's devastating earthquake have been found and are headed home.
"NYU is very pleased to report that we have been in touch with one of the two missing graduate students who were in Haiti. They are together and safe and well in the Dominican Republic en route back home to the US," said NYU spokesman John Beckman in a statement.
Concerned relatives were not able to reach doctoral students Greg Childs and Nathalie Pierre, who arrived to Haiti on Monday -- one day before the earthquake rocked the city of Port au Prince.
Officials coordinating NYU efforts to locate the pair, encouraged the students to go to the airport and connect with the contractor International SOS.
Child and Pierre were doing research on the island nation as part of their PhD program.
"We're overjoyed to know they are coming home, safe and sound. This is a very happy ending to this story," said Beckman.
