'Needle Mugger' Evades Police

Police say a man’s robbery spree in the Bronx began more than a month ago on August 16th in the vicinity of Castle Hill Avenue and East Tremont Avenue.

From there, a total of 7 more times police allege a man described to be Hispanic, about 40 years old, 5’6”, 120 pounds, last seen wearing a black leather Yankee hat and a black hooded sweatshirt not only stole from his victims, but also threatened them with a hypodermic needle before robbing them.

The suspect has struck at all times of the day and all days of the week.  The NYPD caught the suspect on surveillance video and are now seeking the public’s help catching him.

One victim, only 14 years old, spoke to PIX11 over the phone with his parents permission.  He said he was approached by the suspect last Friday on September 14 when he was asked “Do you know what HIV is?” and then “If I stick you, it’s over for you.”

The NYPD said they have no record of similar threats made in any other stick up.
