CENTERPORT, N.Y. (PIX11)—A Long Island mother was arrested and charged after police say she crashed her vehicle into another and fled the scene. At the time, cops say she was driving her 5-year-old son and was also under the influence of alcohol.
According to Suffolk County police, Jessica Lazarus, 39, of Centerport was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law, leaving the scene of an accident with injury and endangering the welfare of a child
Drivers for both the Jeep and Toyota where transported to Huntington Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Lazarus who fled the scene shortly after, was arrested later at her home. She was arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Central Islip.
Lazarus' son was turned over to relatives, police said.
