Mineola, N.Y. (WPIX)—In the hyper-competitive world of economic development in the New York City-area, Nassau County appears to be employing a bizarre tactic: using professional models to depict its business-assistance team.
PIX 11's Greg Mocker discovered the oddity on the county website where the Office of Economic Development and the Industrial Development Agency are represented by photos of nine very attractive people five women and four men all wearing county buttons on their lapels.
But as Mocker discovered, none of it is true. The people in the photos are professional models and their lapel buttons that read "I'm [Economic Development]" and "I'm [Industrial Development Agency]" are Photoshop creations.
Nassau County's picture-perfect imagery began to unravel when Mocker found an identical photo of Nassau County's Industrial Development Agency team on business websites based in Spain and Peru.
Those sites eventually pointed Mocker back to the photo's original source: a stock photo library on the Getty Images website. According to Getty, the photo used by Nassau County is titled "Business Team" and, based on its tag information, it may have been snapped in the United Kingdom.
A spokeswoman for Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano told Mocker the photo revelation is a surprise and they are investigating.
