EAST FLATBUSH (WPIX)—An emotionally disturbed man armed with a machete in Brooklyn was shot by police late Sunday evening.
Three NYPD officers and a sergeant arrived at 313 East 94th Street in East Flatbush at about 11 p.m., where they encountered the unbalanced 49-year-old man.
According to police, the sergeant shot the suspect once in each leg after the suspect brandished the machete in the doorway of the apartment building and pepper spray failed to subdue him.
But other reports say the sergeant fired his gun 13 times and the suspect was shot in his legs four times.
Police say the suspect's daughter was in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Her involvement in the case is unclear at this hour.
Records indicate the man had no prior arrests or complaints.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
