BRIDGEHAMPTON, N.Y. (WPIX)
A Long Island mother was arrested and charged after police say she drove drunk and crashed her vehicle, injuring her two daughters who were riding in the backseat in the process.
According to Southampton Town Police, Christina Kelly, 34, of Sag Harbor lost control of her 2007 Land Rover just south of Loper's Path in Bridgehampton Tuesday at around 4:30 p.m.
Kelly crossed the northbound lane and struck a utility pole, in turn causing the pole along with two others to fall onto the roadway, police said. The accident, which unraveled at the brink of rush hour, closed the busy roadway for several hours.
Responding officers arrested Kelly at the scene after an investigation determined she was intoxicated.
Kelly, along with her two daughters, a 6-year-old and 2-year-old were transported to Southampton Hospital where they were treated for their injuries. According to officials, the 6-year-old suffered injuries to her head, arm and knee while the 2-year-old suffered injuries to her face. After the children were treated, they were released and taken into the custody of their grandparents.
Kelly was transported in police custody to Southampton Town Police Headquarters in Hampton Bays where she was processed and held for arraignment Wednesday morning.
She is being charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the 2nd degree.
