The man police say attacked two women on the Lower East Side is off the streets.

Investigators say they arrested Joseph Quirindongo, 20, of the Bronx early Saturday morning and charged him with a criminal sex act, attempted rape, assault, and weapons possession.

According to detectives, Quirindongo followed a 17-year-old girl into her building elevator, where he promptly pulled a knife. That was in April. Then, police say he forced her from the elevator into a stairwell, where she was able to fight him off; Quirindongo fled the scene.

And back on Jan. 16, 2010, cops say he followed a 19-year-old woman into her building elevator, where he used the same modus operandi (MO). However, she wasn't able to fight him off, so cops say he was able to rape her. She was hospitalized after the attack.

Reports say a tip lead to Quirindongo capture.
