JONES BEACH, NY (PIX11)
PIX 11 got a first, "on the ground" look at severe damage in Jones Beach State Park, as George Gorman, the deputy regional director for NYS Parks and Recreation, gave us a tour of the ripped up boardwalk, seaweed-drenched Jones Beach theatre, and a section of Ocean Parkway to the east, by Gilgo Beach, that's lost its third lane.
PIX 11 broadcast "live" again from our recent base in Long Beach, where the National Guard parked Humvees in the parking lot at Waldbaums, as a volunteer group from Springfield, Missouri--called Convoy of Hope--delivered food, water and cleaning supplies.
PIX 11 also travelled inland Thursday, to Levittown, to show the extent of damage there, due largely to huge trees that fell into houses...or onto power lines and cars.
Our dramatic video will give you a cross-section of our travels.
