A burglar is still in the wind following a home invasion in Great Neck Tuesday morning, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

At 12:20 a.m., a masked man entered the home located at 66 Berkshire Road.

He accessed a safe and swiped $20,000 from it.

Reports say he encountered the homeowner and stuck him in the face with a baseball bat.

The homeowner fought back and the police say the burglar may have also sustained a head injury.

The thief was able to escape a police sweep of the area, which included K-9 units, helicopters and search of local hospitals.

The suspect is described as a six-foot tall man wearing all dark clothing and a mask.

At this hour, Nassau County Police are treating the home invasion as a burglary investigation as it is unclear if the home was occupied at the time of the incident.
