Fundraiser Held For Staten Island Baby Who Was Shot In Eye
A fundraiser is set for Wednesday night for Staten Island baby girl who was shot in the eye in September while sitting in her stroller.

Attorney Michael Ryan will co-host the event at The Road House, located at 1400 Clove Road in Sunnyside, Staten Island at 6 p.m.

The mission of the fundraiser is to assist 20-month-old Samyah's family with medical bills and living expenses.

For those who cannot attend but want to help, checks or money orders can be made payable to Samyah Bailey and mailed to Valley National Bank, 120 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10271, Attn: Rosalina Hernandez, branch sales manager.

On September 14, Damark King, 19, of Nicholas Avenue in Staten Island opened fire in an open recreational area Wednesday afternoon in Mariners Harbor, sending a stray bullet toward then-18-month-old Samyah , striking her in the head.

The bullet entered through her temple and exiting between her eyes, police said.

Witnesses say Samyah was sitting in a stroller being pushed by a relative when shots rang out that afternoon.

The young victim was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton where she was listed in critical but stable condition.

Samyah successfully underwent three surgeries the same day of the shooting to remove a blood clot, but doctors were not able to save one of her eyes.

King was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
