RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (WPIX)
Erick Morales, 27, was pulled over by police near the Hampton Bays train station early Monday morning. He originally told officers his name was Carlos Billamarin, but a fingerprint check later determined his true identity.
According to authorities, Morales appeared twice on "America's Most Wanted" for the stabbing death of a 15-year-old classmate in Daly City, California.
In the case, he allegedly cut school in May 2001 and convinced his friend Quetzalcoatl "Quetzal" Alba to go with him. Morales' roomate, identified as Reynaldo Maldanado, joined them later on. It's unclear what led up to the fatal stabbing, authorities said.
The suspect had been living on Long Island for nearly five years and rented a room in a Hampton Bays house.
Morales was charged in a court in Southampton with being a fugitive from justice, false impersonation and DWI. However, the Suffolk District Attorney dropped those charges Wednesday after Morales reportedly waived his right to an extradition hearing.
Morales' accomplice in the 2001 slaying was caught in Miami two years ago and is currently on trial in connection with the case. Maldonado reportedly had a "trophy photo" of Morales standing over the dying victim.
