THE BRONX (PIX11)—A Bronx baby died after he ingested prescription medicine from a bottle he reportedly was given to use as a rattle.
Authorities say the 13-month-old, identified by police as Edwin Perocier, was discovered unconscious and unresponsive when responding officers arrived to the family's Longwood home on Southern Boulevard sometime before 8 a.m. Friday.
The boy was transported to Lincoln Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Perocier reportedly swallowed the pills prescribed to his father after opening the bottle. It wasn't immediately clear if the bottle had a child-safety cap.
The New York Daily News reports that the bottle was given to the child to use as a rattle.
Police a medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Perocier's parents were not immediately identified.
