BROOKLYN, NY (PIX11)—Con Edison is warning Brooklyn customers that, because of problems with electrical equipment, voltage is being reduced by 5 percent in certain neighborhoods.
The neighborhoods affected are: Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bedford Stuyvesant, Clinton Hill, Fort Greene and Park Slope; Prospect Heights, Windsor Terrace; Sheepshead Bay, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach, Midwood, Flatbush, and East Flatbush; Gravesend, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach.
While workers are trying to repair equipment at two substations, ConEd is asking customers in the affected neighborhoods conserve electricity and turn off nonessential electric equipment, such as TVs, computers, air conditioners, washers, dryers, and microwaves. Refrigerators can be kept on, but refrigerator and freezer doors should be kept closed.
Customers can report power interruptions or service problems as well as view service restoration information online at www.conEd.com and on their cell phones and PDAs. Customers may also call Con Edison at 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers should have their Con Edison account number available, if possible, and report whether their neighbors also have lost power.
