QUEENS, NY (PIX11)—Police spent more than eight hours today scouring the neighborhood surrounding Queens Hospital Center and beyond, looking for Leila Rajnarie - accused of abducting her 8-month old Nevita Jagdeo.
They found the pair - pulled over while sitting in the back of a livery cab, near the intersection of 133rd street and 1-hudred and first avenue - at around 8:15 Wednesday night.
An Amber Alert went out this afternoon following Nevita's abduction, which occurred during her noon doctor's visit at the hospital.
Detectives say Rajnarie was there - with her daughter and a foster mother - she had recently lost custody, police say, due to charges of abandonment and mental issues.
Investigators say while the foster mother was talking to a doctor in another room, Rajnarie snuck out with child, and fled the hospital on foot.
And back in Najarie's neighborhood in Ozone Park, Teddy, who owns a nearby liquor store, says he was not surprised to hear about the abduction.
She's obsessed with the baby. "The husband got there, the baby's father, and just took custody of the baby. She sounded very desperate," Teddy told PIX11.
