Virginia Senator Mark Warner shares the stage with State Senate candidate Bert Dodson at Lynchburg College Friday

Some local politicians are getting big name support in the final stretch before next Tuesday's election.

Virginia Senator Mark Warner traveled through our hometowns Friday, endorsing candidates for state office.

During a rally at Lynchburg College, Warner put his name behind Democrats Bert Dodson and Connie Brennan.

Dodson is running for State Senate in the 22nd district, which covers most of Central Virginia.  He's pushing his background as a business owner, much like Warner did in his 2001 bid for governor.

Business people sometimes don't want to go into government, because there's a lot of time and effort involved and it takes a while to get things done," Dodson said.  "But Mark (Warner) has made the mold and I would like to fill it."

Connie Brennan is running for the House of Delegates in the 59th district, which stretches from Charlottesville to Rustburg.  Brennan is a retired nurse and currently serves on the Nelson County Board of Supervisors.

After stopping in Lynchburg, Warner was scheduled to attend a rally for independent State Senate candidate Brandon Bell in Roanoke.
