UPDATE: Funeral arrangements made for Tuskegee Airman who lived in Salem

Funeral arrangements have been made for Lt. Dempsey Morgan.

His funeral service will be held on Monday at noon at the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home at 1002 Moorman Road in Roanoke.


The country and especially the Roanoke Valley has lost a true American hero.

One of the originial Tuskegee Airmen, Dempsey Morgan passed away Thursday at the Veterans Care Center in Salem.

WDBJ7 profiled Lt. Morgan last year during black history month.  Morgan flew 181 combat missions during World War II.  As a part of the country's most elite African American airmen, he helped break down color barriers.   

Morgan suffered from dementia.

He was 93.
