Even though it may not feel like it Monday, spring is right around the corner.
And, for this region that means it is time for the Vinton Dogwood Festival.
This is the 58th year for the event.
The festival is one of the biggest and longest-running in the region.
Even though it's known for its parade, carnival rides and family fun, the festival had humble beginnings.
"It started as a band competition and also to show off the uniforms of the William Byrd band, this is back in 1955. It was a neat idea to develop at the time," explains Vinton's Special Programs Director Mary Beth Layman.
The event has grown since then.
This year's festival runs from April 24th through the 28th.
There's still time to register for all the events including the parade and a 5-k run.
