RICHMOND, Va. --—The electricity that's probably keeping your house warm right now will start costing you more very soon.
Tuesday, the State Corporation Commission approved another rate increase for Appalachian Power Company. You may recall, last month the Commission approved rate increases that will go into effect February 1st. The increase approved Tuesday is the last of the company's requests. It'll take effect March 1st.
An Appalachian Power Company spokesperson tells NEWS7 that when all of these increases are said and done, you'll see about a 10 percent hike in your monthly power bill.
This latest rate increase will go toward Appalachian Power's purchase of the Dresden Generating Plant, which will cost about $26 million.
