A local furniture manufacturer is cutting back some of its workforce.
Rowe Furniture announced Wednesday that it is laying off some of its workforce.
A news release did not indicate how many people actually were laid off.
Rowe Furniture cited a " continued challenging retrail environment in the home furnishings industry" as the reason for the job cuts.
Here is the news release from Rowe Furniture:
Today, Rowe Furniture, based in Elliston, Virginia, made the decision to layoff some of our workforce in our manufacturing facilities. With the continued challenging retail environment that has gone on for some time in the home furnishings industry, many factories around the country have chosen to work either three or four day work weeks on an ongoing basis.
We, at Rowe Furniture, felt that this solution was not best for our team and their families and although these decisions are never easy, we believe it is best to keep as many employees as possible working at a more full time level.
We appreciate all of the hard work and dedication that our employees have given and we continue
to be committed to our mission of continuing to manufacture our furniture in the U.S.
