LYNDHURST, Va. (AP) --
An Alabama man has fallen to his death while rock climbing on Virginia's Blue Ridge Parkway.
Augusta County Fire Chief Carson Holloway says the victim died Wednesday afternoon at the Ravens Roost overlook.
Authorities didn't immediately release the victim's identity or a cause of the accident.
But a climbing companion, Drue White of Farmville, tells media outlets that the victim was 20-year-old Jonathan Sullivan of Tuscaloosa, Ala.
White says three people were climbing the cliff when a rope broke and Sullivan fell about 100 feet.
A group of climbers had scaled the cliff several times before the accident.
Officers from the National Park Service, the state Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and departments from Wintergreen, Waynesboro and Augusta County responded to retrieve the body.
