Lynchburg students are hoping to stop violent acts by honoring the victim of a recent tragedy.
Randolph College held a "Day of Non Violence" on campus. Students gathered Friday afternoon to remember the life of Catherine Violet Hubbard.
Hubbard was one of the young students killed in Newtown, Connecticut school shooting last December. Her mother, Jenny, graduated from Randolph in 1995.
"We definitely wanted to reach out to her and let her know that, although we may be miles apart, we're still thinking about her," said Emily Hood, a student who helped organize Friday's ceremony.
After reading a poem written by Maya Angelou, students released balloons in Hubbard's honor and signed cards for her family.
