ROANOKE, Va—Prices at the pump continue to decline as we turn the calendar to December.
According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded now sits at $3.39. That's down four cents from a week ago.
In the Roanoke area, count on paying about $3.18 a gallon right now. That's down a penny from last week.
Compared to last month, gas is down a dime across the board.
Analysts forecast prices to continue going down through the New Year. “Gas prices continue to fall into December, a trend that began over two months ago,” said Martha Meade, of AAA Mid-Atlantic, in a press release. “With regional gas station outages from superstorm Sandy now resolved and somewhat eased tension in the Middle East, experts believe the national average gas price will continue to decline through year’s end and into the new year.”
The U.S. Energy Department reports the average price for a gallon of regular has run about $3.64 this year. That's up from last year's average of $3.53.
