After years of talks, delays, and finally construction, Roanoke County's new $15,000,000 library headquarters is finally open to the public.
The library's parking lot on Merriman Road was full earlier Tuesday afternoon.
More than 300 people turned out for the library dedication Tuesday morning.
There was a brief ceremony followed by the official ribbon cutting.
This is Roanoke County's first library headquarters in 40 years and it's located on Merriman Road, across from Penn Forest Elementary.
It has triple the square footage, triple the parking, and triple the amount of computers compared to the old library headquarters.
People seeing it for the first time say they're impressed.
"This is much nicer, new and fresh. should be lots of fun," Kristen Dinsmore said.
Audrey Bock told NEWS7: "I think it is a well designed building for the 21st century."
Martha Main said: "It's just beautiful. I love schools. I love libraries, it's just really good."
The South County Library has many features including a coffee shop run by Mill Mountain Coffee and a quiet room with a fireplace in the middle, definitely a place to sit and relax and warm up on a cold day like Tuesday.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, about 3,000 people visited the new library.
There are tours being held throughout the day Tuesday.
The library will be open Monday thru Thursday from 9 AM to 9 PM.
Hours Friday are 9 AM to 6 PM and Saturday are 9 AM to 5 PM.
