A popular destination on the Blue Ridge Parkway will re-open with new management.
The Peaks of Otter Lodge will be operated by Delaware North Parks & Resorts. The company is based in New York and has a lot of experience working with the National Park Service. It runs concessions at the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Shenandoah National Park.
Delaware North has signed a ten-year contract to operate the Peaks of Otter Lodge and restaurant, and the Sharp Top shuttle bus.
"The fact that they have a contract to operate the lodge for ten years is a real plus, because there will be an incentive for them to make improvements that are necessary for that facility," said Sergei Troubetzkoy, director of tourism for Bedford county.
The lodge and restaurant have been closed since last fall, when the previous operator gave up its contract to run the business. It's expected to re-open by early summer.
