A moonshine operation has been busted in Grayson County.
The sheriff’s office seized 18 one-gallon jugs of alcohol and nearly 40 jars.
They also took a 22-caliber revolver.
Working on a tip, the sheriff's office got a search warrant and arrested Larry Shaw of Mount Olivet Road.
He's been charged with having untaxed alcohol and a still.

On 07/05/2011 Deputy T Jefferson received information from a couple of citizens about a possible still operation on Mt. Olivet Road in the Baywood area. Deputy Jefferson turned the information over to Lt. D Ashby. Ashby interviewed witnesses and obtained search warrants for 1090 Mt. Olivet Rd. as well as the property directly across the road from 1090.
The search was executed on 07/08/2011 by the following: D Ashby, T Perkins, T Jefferson, M Hash, T Sawyer, D Carner, R Halsey, A Graham, and A Peters.
The following items were seized from the two properties: Still Apparatus, 18 Gallon jugs of alcohol, 37 qt. jars of alcohol, 2 qt. jars of fruit in alcohol, a .22 cal. Revolver, as well as several misl. items.
Samples of the liquid were sent to the DFS lab in Roanoke for analysis. The certificate confirmed the liquid was Ethyl Alcohol. Warrants were issued.
Grayson County Sheriff Richard Vaughan stated that “tips from citizens are a very important aspect of Community Policing. Sheriff’s office employees have developed a sense of trust among our citizenry. This public trust leads to more arrests, and safer communities.”

Mr. Shaw was arrested on 09/13/2011 and was sent to NRVRJ with a $2000 secured bond.
