The Martinsville man arrested for causing his girlfriend to suffer second and third degree burns on Thursday reportedly threw rubbing alcohol on her, then lit her hair and face on fire with a lighter.

The victim, who has been confirmed as Goins's girlfriend, drove herself to the hospital after the incident. When she got to the hospital for treatment, doctors called police to report the incident. Her face was badly burned.

Goins is facing charges of aggravated malicious wounding in relation to the incident and is currently incarcerated in the Martinsville City Jail.

12:33 p.m. Monday: The woman suffering from second and third degree burns, after a Martinsville man threw a flammable substance in her face, is now out of the hospital.

She was first treated at Winston Salem Baptist Hospital, and was soon seen again at Memorial Hospital. Reports say that she has now been released.

The man arrested for causing the injuries, Charles Goins, of Martinsville, is reportedly the woman's boyfriend.

Goins is facing charges of aggravated malicious wounding in relation to the incident, and is currently incarcerated in the Martinsville City Jail.

11:35 a.m. Monday: A man was arrested for throwing a flammable substance in a woman’s face while in a Martinsville apartment complex, causing her to suffer second and third degree burns to her face and body.

Investigators were notified that the incident took place in a Mountain Road Apartment in Martinsville on Thursday. Charles Wayne Goins, of Martinsville, was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding in relation to the incident.

According to a news release, the victim said that Goins started cursing at her and threw some type of flammable substance in her face, then put a lighter to her face and hair.

She was transported to Winston Salem Baptist Hospital, where she received treatment for second and third degree burns to her face and body. She was released and treated again at Memorial Hospital shortly after.

Goins is currently incarcerated in the Martinsville City Jail.
