Lynchburg high school publication ranked among nation's best

Some Lynchburg students are getting special attention for their unique talents.

Heritage High School's literary and arts magazine, Avant Garde, is ranked among the nation's best student publications.

It was one of 20 in Virginia to be recognized this year by the National Council of Teachers of English.

Avant Garde is an entirely student produced magazine.  Everything from the layout, to artwork and poems are all produced by teenagers at Heritage.

"It's taught me that, even though you're a student, you're really not limited by being in school," said Joseph Link, a magazine contributor and Heritage High School senior.  "You can get your creativeness out there, into something like a literary magazine."

Avant Garde is produced once a year and relies on donations to get published.  Students plan to host a talent show this Friday to raise money for the next edition.
