ROANOKE, Va.—The state is looking into ways to clean up some of the waterways in the region after finding high levels of bacteria.
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality held an open house Tuesday evening at The Roanoke Civic Center.
“When we have too much bacteria in our streams and rivers that can cause people to get sick especially if they ingest the water that can cause some gastrointestinal illness,” Mary Dail said.
The bacteria is also affecting some of the marine life.
The open house is until 8:00 Tuesday night.
