This flu season will be one for the record books. Some locations in our area have run out of the vaccine and those that still have a supply can barely keep it in stock.
At the Downhome Pharmacy in Botetourt County, business is booming. The owner says there’s been a shift in customer purchasing habits. Many are coming in later in the season. This year, they may see the most customers ever for flu related sickness.
We spoke with Tim Lucas who owns the pharmacy and is a pharmacist.
"I looked at some of the numbers that we had done personally here and last year up through December we had hardly any of the Tamiflu prescriptions actually filled and this year we've done tons of them already," Lucas said.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, you should get a flu shot if you’re at high risk of developing serious complications like pneumonia if you come down with the flu.
Also, if you suffer from medical problems like asthma, diabetes, and chronic lung disease. Pregnant women and people age 65 and older should also consider getting a flu vaccine.
