Ferrum man killed in Franklin County car crash

A Ferrum man was killed in a single vehicle crash in Franklin County.

It happened just before 11:00 a.m. Monday on Route 623, near the intersection of Route 778.

Troopers with Virginia State Police say Theodore Crawford was traveling west when he ran off the road and hit several trees.

The 71 year old was not wearing a seat belt.

The Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal traffic crash that occurred this morning shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Route 623, two tenths of a mile east of Route 778 in Franklin County.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1990 Lincoln town car was traveling westbound on Route 623 when it ran off the rightside of the roadway striking several trees.

The driver, Theodore Freeman Crawford, age 71, of Ferrum, Virginia was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
