UPDATED: Two men arrested Wednesday on charges involving Amherst County car robberies

Two men were arrested Wednesday night on charges involving the recent string of car robberies in the Madison Heights area of Amherst County.

Sergio Mercado, 22, of New York was arrested on drug violation charges. Christopher Fralix, 24, of Kingsport, Tennessee was arrested on drug violation and credit card larceny charges. Both are being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail, according to a news release.

The Amherst County Sheriff’s office made the arrests at The Best Value Inn motel in Madison Heights after interviewing the men and recovering some of the items that were taken from parked vehicles over the past two weeks.

At least eight cars were robbed Thursday night and early Friday in Amherst County.

Items including laptops and DVD players were taken from vehicles in the Seminole Drive/Wright Shop Road area of Madison Heights.

One of the robbery victims saw two young men running from the area where he had stolen items from his car.  According to a news release from the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, they were last seen running up Hilltop Drive.
