The Appalachian Power Visitor Center, above Smith Mountain Dam, has reopened.
It was closed for about a month so exhibits could be updated. Regular maintenance needs of the facility were also taken care.
Now, the center better presents the history of the Smith Mountain Hydroelectric Project. Visitors to the center can also learn how electric power is generated at the two-lake facility.
Minor work still needs to be completed, but the center will remain open. A dedication to the new center will be held later this year.
