Red-light camera ruling impact still unclear

Red-light camera ruling impact still unclear

October 20, 2014

Q: Can you advise whether the recent ruling from the Fourth District Court of Appeals on red light cameras is retroactive, meaning the city of Hollywood needs to refund any citations issued in the past?

  • Sample Road intersection gets second left turn

    October 13, 2014

Q: Can the eastbound left turn lane signal be lengthened on Sample Road at Powerline Road? It's too short and a lot of slow-moving trucks tie up traffic if they are turning left.

  • Ramp to Sawgrass no longer free

    September 29, 2014

Q: Why are they putting toll booths on the southbound on-ramp to the Sawgrass Expressway from Pat Salerno Drive? That ramp has always been free since they built it. It will change driving patterns and more traffic will go to Sunrise Boulevard to avoid the toll.

  • Drivers fume over blocked Davie Blvd. intersections

    September 22, 2014

Q: Can signs be put up warning drivers not to block the intersections of Davie Boulevard at Andrews Avenue and Southwest Fourth Avenue adjacent to the Florida East Coast Railway crossing? Rush hour traffic backs up daily because drivers get stuck in the intersections when a train passes, or sometimes it backs up from the next intersection.

  • Stretch of Bayview Drive getting FPL upgrade with new poles

    September 15, 2014

Q: Why has Bayview Drive been closed between Oakland Park and Commercial boulevards, including closures on Sunday?

  • New runway tunnel lights adjust with conditions outside

    September 8, 2014

Q: I have not seen anything written about the danger posed driving through the new runway tunnels on U.S. 1 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on sunny days. One must drive in very bright sunlight, then under a bridge where it is suddenly dark, then in bright sunlight again. The glare is tremendous.

  • HOV hours unlikely to be extended

    August 25, 2014

Q: Can you help explain why the HOV lane hours on Interstate 95 are only from 7 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m. With longer work hours and longer commutes in South Florida, it makes sense to extend the hours. In other metro areas around the country, the hours are from 6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. weekdays.

  • Why can tolls be charged in I-95 express lanes?

    August 11, 2014

Q: Why is Florida allowed to charge tolls on highways like Interstate 95 that were built with federal tax dollars?

  • I-95 being restriped to allow for express lanes

    August 4, 2014

Q: What is going on with Interstate 95 between Fort Lauderdale and Aventura? The road is hazardous and the lane stripes are very confusing. When are they going to repave it?

  • SunPass works on compatibility with other states

    July 28, 2014

Q: Will SunPass be compatible in the near future with Illinois' I-Pass?

  • Alligator Alley rest stop to open in August

    July 21, 2014

Q: When will the new rest stop at mile marker 63 on Alligator Alley be completed and open?

  • Electronic tolling years off for PB

    July 14, 2014

Q: Regarding the raise in tolls on the turnpike that takes effect for SunPass and Toll by Plate on July 1, wasn't there a plan to stop Toll by Plate and toll booths altogether? Wasn't there a plan to just make it SunPass exclusively?

  • HOV rules suspended on I-95 south of Sunrise Blvd.

    July 7, 2014

Q: Are the HOV requirements still suspended on Interstate 95 in south Broward? The signs are still up in places north of Ives Dairy Road and no one knows whether they can move into the HOV lane at rush hour. When will the newest section of express lanes be completed and are there plans to extend them north? Also, some commuter rail systems up north give commuters a break by offering a monthly pass. Does Tri-Rail offer a similar break?

  • Drivers must pull up to white line for light to change

    June 30, 2014

Q: Drivers on Military Trail sometimes have to wait through three light changes before the left turn arrow to go west on Lake Ida Road in Delray Beach finally appears. Drivers stacked up in the left turn lane pull out into the northbound through lanes to go through the intersection and make a U-turn to come back. Other drivers anticipating the left turn start creeping into the middle of the intersection and get stuck there because the arrow does not come on. What's going on?

  • Lighthouse Point new bridge construction delayed

    June 23, 2014

Q: Signs say the completion date for the Kingfisher Waterway Bridge is now summer of 2014. It appears no actual work has taken place for some time and I'm wondering whether the already extended completion date from the spring is realistic and why the timetable had to be changed.

  • I-95 express lanes will have multiple access points

    June 16, 2014

Q: When the Interstate 95 express lanes are open to Broward Boulevard in early 2015, will there be an access point at Sheridan Street? Will there be one toll for cars entering the express lanes at Broward Boulevard all the way to downtown Miami? And what will happen at the Golden Glades flyover, which is only one lane in each direction? Will vehicles have to merge from two lanes into one?

  • Uneven pavement on Sawgrass worries drivers

    June 9, 2014

Q: There is a dangerous condition with water ponding on the Sawgrass Expressway from the Sunrise toll plaza to Atlantic Boulevard. The new top layer of pavement, which was applied separately to each lane, is joined at slightly different heights creating a barrier that prevents water from draining.

  • Different pavement used on I-595 vs. S.R. 84 designed for higher speeds

    June 2, 2014

Q: The pavement on the reconstructed Interstate 595 seems different than the pavement on the ramps and on stretches of State Road 84 that parallel the interstate. Can you tell me why?

  • Drivers get better traction on I-95 in Lake Worth

    May 26, 2014

Q: What's the reason for the nighttime lane closures and construction on Interstate 95 in Lake Worth? Wasn't this stretch of I-95 just widened and reconstructed several years ago?

  • Turnpike's Commercial exit to be upgraded

    May 19, 2014

Q: At the Commercial Boulevard interchange at Florida's Turnpike, drivers exiting from both directions are forced to weave to get in the correct lanes at the toll plaza to go east or west on Commercial. Southbound drivers who want to go west on Commercial have to cross paths with high-speed traffic exiting from the northbound turnpike. I can't believe the turnpike thought this was an acceptable alternative. Does it have to take a death or serious injury for something to change with this exit?

  • A1A curve in Deerfield to be fixed in 2015

    May 12, 2014

Q: What's the status of fixing the S curve on A1A in Deerfield Beach?

  • Longer-term fix for Golden Glades ahead in 2017

    May 5, 2014

Q: Have they stopped working on the road leading to the Golden Glades interchange as you come off Florida's Turnpike? They removed toll booths, but the road now has curved lanes so everyone puts on their brakes. What's up?

  • How rental car companies deal with tolls

    April 28, 2014

Q: Florida has such a large amount of rental cars, so how is the state collecting from them on Florida's Turnpike in Miami-Dade County, the Sawgrass Expressway and other toll roads that have all-electronic tolling and no toll booths?

  • Pine Island widening south of I-595 coming in 2015

    April 21, 2014

Q: Now that the Interstate 595 reconstruction is nearing completion, what about plans for the cross streets? Pine Island Road is jammed approaching the interstate from Nova Drive.

  • New signs for Griffin, Orange Drive coming to Palm Avenue/Nob Hill intersection this month

    April 14, 2014

Q: On northbound Palm Avenue, the far right lane turns into a mandatory right turn just north of Griffin Road at Orange Drive. There is no warning that you have to move left if you want to continue north. There needs to be a right turn only sign posted.

  • Broward to be repaved east of U.S. 1 later this year

    April 7, 2014

Q: Are they ever going to re-pave Broward Boulevard east of U.S. 1 in Fort Lauderdale? It is full of potholes and getting worse. It's one of the main routes to get to Las Olas Boulevard from U.S. 1.

  • Signals to be retimed at I-595, SR 84 intersections

    March 31, 2014

Q: On my way home after a late shift in the middle of the night, I get stuck for more than five minutes at the traffic signal on northbound Flamingo Road at eastbound State Road 84. There is almost no traffic coming south on Flamingo to turn east on S.R. 84, or on S.R. 84 trying to turn north on Flamingo. Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

  • Traffic light holds up merge to I-595

    March 24, 2014

Q: When heading to westbound Interstate 595 from State Road 7, I end up at a traffic signal on State Road 84 and Davie Road. It feels like my westbound commute is held up by this single signal. Will this change when the I-595 construction is over?

  • Driver seeks sign to help find University Drive

    March 17, 2014

Q: When you enter Interstate 595 from State Road 7, there are no signs that say you have to stay on S.R. 84 if you want to go to University Drive. The first westbound exit is Pine Island Road. A sign is desperately needed for those heading west to University Drive.

  • Cameras, CB radio system coming to U.S. 27

    March 10, 2014

Q: Cameras and satellite dishes are popping up along U.S. 27. Any idea what they are for?

  • New signal timing tested on University Drive

    March 3, 2014

Q: Can you address traffic signal timing changes on University Drive between Sunrise and Oakland Park boulevards? The instant they changed it, backups got worse. When the signals cycle too quickly, traffic never gets up to speed. The lights are so short that cars barely move.

  • Express lanes can charge tolls on interstates

    January 16, 2009

Q: I remember during the Eisenhower administration, federal tax dollars were appropriated for the construction of Interstate 95 and other interstate highways. A big hullabaloo was reported in the newspapers about the statement that no state would receive funds to build the highway if tolls were charged Am I mistaken? If this is fact, who changed it? And how can tolls be allowed on Interstate 95 between Miami and Fort Lauderdale? Robert Katz, Boynton Beach
